Kingston, Jamaica, Monday, August 28, 2017 The Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Audley Shaw, has been lauded by GlobalMarkets newspaper, an international publication, for his stellar leadership of the Jamaican economy. The Finance Minister was conferred with the award of ‘Finance Minister of the Year for the Caribbean.’
The Editorial Committee of the publication, chaired by Managing Editor Toby Fildes, considered Minister Shaw "as the outstanding candidate for the award this year." Minister Shaw was praised for maintaining “a tight hand on government spending,” and for “demonstrating the country's political stability,” despite the change of administration. The newspaper further cited Jamaica “as a stand-out performer on its fiscal targets,” noting Jamaica’s improved credit ratings and Moody's lifting the country to B3 in last November.
In accepting the award of ‘Finance Minister of the Year for the Caribbean,’ on behalf of the Government and People of Jamaica, Minister Shaw emphasized the contribution of the collective roles of The Most Honourable Andrew Holness, Prime Minister, and the Government of Jamaica, whom he said are responsible for the positive outcomes identified by GlobalMarkets.
